The Kite Runner 3

To catch up on blogging, a little more than half way through the book, i got a little confused.  It didn’t make sense that Amir and Hassan were related because in the beginning of the book, the family backgrounds were explained.  Amir’s mother died soon after he was born and Hassan’s mother ran away.  After we find out that Baba lied to his son about something like this, it’s hard to completely trust everything else he’s said.  Sadly, reading about lies can make you wonder whether everything in your life is real or not.  Are there huge secrets that you don’t know about but could change the way you look at life? At your past? and actions?  it’s a scary thought.

I forgot to blog earlier in the book, but as upsetting as the book is, it’s really good.  I was dissapointed that Amir didn’t help Hassan in the alley.  It’s difficult to imagine what you would do in his position.  We all hope we would do the right thing, but until you’re actually in that position, no one will ever know how they will react.  Is is possible that fear is evil?  Most of the time, fear is just a weakness that doesn’t have a huge impact on someones life, but in this case, Amir’s fear makes the reader feel like he is evil.

I chose The Kite Runner by khaled Hossein because a lot of people have told me that it’s a good book.  Based on their opinions and the five pages of positive reviews, I think I’m going to enjoy the book.  All the reviews are so strong that the book doesn’t need a thorough summary.  The big bold words “RIVETING” and “POWERFUL” are enough to made me interested.  I’m expecting this book to bring all different emotions.  The word “haunting” on as a review makes me think I’ll probably have a terrifying realization about something.  Another review says that the book is over all “lovingly written” so the author wants the reader to experience many emotions.  I’ve only heard good things about this book, so I can’t wait to find out why.
